PASS: Positive Approach to Student Success

Inclusion for students with behavior disorders
PASS: Positive Approach to Student Success
PASS training provides teachers and paraprofessionals with a system that serves students with serious emotional disturbances in the general education setting using individualized programming that incorporates best practices. PASS programming combines targeted and intensive social skills instruction with behavior monitoring and coaching support for the student and the teacher. The program aims to assist the student in the development of self-management skills and relies on data to drive decisions.
PASS Basic Training is appropriate for individuals who will be facilitating PASS programs on a campus (e.g., PASS teacher, PASS paraprofessional) and for administrators and supervisors desiring a comprehensive knowledge of PASS procedures.
Training on PASS Supervision for those supervising PASS programs on their campus or district is also available.
Schools that have implemented PASS report that their ED/BD students are experiencing academic and behavioral success in mainstream settings. They are also making significant reductions in the number of students placed in more restrictive environments.

In addition to tailored PASS training, Safe & Civil Schools can include PASS training as part of schoolwide CHAMPS/DSC training or Foundations training, which guides schools in designing a proactive and positive schoolwide discipline plan that establishes a positive school climate and culture, and addresses all aspects of school safety, student motivation, and academic engagement.
Evidence-based approach to managing at-risk and emotionally disturbed students
Functional Behavioral Methodologies to Foster Academic and Emotional Growth
PASS is a process for managing the behavior of students identified as behaviorally at-risk or emotionally/behaviorally disturbed. PASS incorporates a nonlevels-based, individualized approach that provides explicit teaching of behavioral expectations in mainstream settings. The program uses a Functional Behavior methodology with daily and weekly behavioral analysis to guide intervention. PASS helps school staff serve students with serious emotional disturbances in the general education setting, using individualized programming that incorporates best practices. Programming combines targeted, intensive instruction with behavior monitoring and coaching support for the student and the teacher. The program aims to assist the student in developing self-management skills and relies on data to drive decisions regarding student programming.
