How well you teach = How well they learn
Explicit Instruction
With Anita Archer
Research shows that explicit instruction—instruction that is systematic, direct, engaging, and success oriented—promotes achievement for all students. This training gives general and special education teachers the tools they need to implement explicit instruction at any grade or content level. Participants will learn to design instruction that focuses on critical content, breaks down complex skills, and provides systematic instruction and judicious practice. They will also learn research-based strategies for delivering instruction that engages students and maximizes instructional time.
Among the critical content and skills discussed are:
- Active engagement/opportunities to respond
- Lesson structure and design for both skills and strategies
- Guidelines for identifying key concepts, strategies, skills, and routines to teach
- Effective instructional corrections
- Strategies for providing practice and feedback
- Incorporating vocabulary instruction into all content areas
