Randy Sprick's Safe & Civil Schools – Practical Solutions, Positive Results!

Evidence-Based

Safe & Civil Schools has just been listed in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

Many of you have asked, "Are you evidence based?" This is a great question and the answer has been "yes," but now the answer is "YES!" NREPP has reviewed research on Safe & Civil Schools implementations and found the research to be not only valid but of high quality. NREPP is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Studies reviewed indicate that schools using the Safe & Civil Schools Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Model demonstrate significant and positive outcomes for:

  1. Improving academic achievement
  2. Reducing school suspensions
  3. Reducing classroom disruption
  4. Improving teachers’ professional self-efficacy
  5. Improving school discipline procedures (staff and student perceptions)

NREPP's independent reviewers found not only that outcomes are based on research that is valid and of high quality, but also that Safe & Civil Schools’ ability to disseminate and replicate these outcomes is exemplary—the highest rating possible. On a 4.0 scale, overall scores on the two indicators are:

What This Means for Schools

The positive findings and registration in NREPP provide support for administrators and school board members who need to document that time and resources spent on Safe & Civil Schools initiatives will contribute to increased academic engaged time and academic achievement.
