Coaching CHAMPS

Coaching CHAMPS

Using what we know about effective support for students, Coaching CHAMPS offers a comprehensive guide for supporting teachers in using effective behavior management practices. Designed as an MTSS framework for supporting teachers, this training will discuss how to develop an effective system of support for all classroom teachers in implementing effective classroom management practices (Tier 1), how to provide more formal, structured coaching support to teachers whose needs have not been met within universal supports (Tier 2), and how to design a formal plan of improvement for teachers with the greatest support needs (Tier 3). By creating tiers for our educators, just as we do for students, we can adapt and modify professional development and coaching systems to meet both the collective and individual needs of all teachers.

Administrators will learn how to:

  • Develop and communicate a schoolwide vision for classroom management.
  • Establish a training and coaching plan to support teachers in implementing proactive, positive, and instructional classroom management systems.
  • Oversee progress and evaluate outcomes of the plan’s implementation.
  • Design and monitor structured plans of assistance for teachers with the greatest support needs.

Coaches will learn how to:

  • Set a positive tone for collaborative partnership.
  • Establish procedures for observation, data collection, and feedback.
  • Develop a positive, supportive coaching process that includes planning, observation, feedback, intervention (if needed), and evaluation.
  • Determine how and when to implement specific resources from a comprehensive set of dynamic coaching tools.
